chicken chronicles-new lady

This is our new chicken that is a Black Australorp named Dahlia . She is a year and a half and has made herself at home with the other ladies. When introducing a new chicken especially one of a different age it is best to do it at night to prevent conflict and stress. Putting her into the coop after the others have gone to sleep dupes everyone into thinking the chicken was there all along. The next morning after putting her in the coop she had some trouble finding her way down to the water and feed. After an hours or so we helped her find the way out and the rest was history. She has not laid since the move but just the littlest stress can delay the laying process. On that topic the other ladies are still not laying and may not this fall if they don't kick it into gear.
