midsummer eve

The beginning to our longest day of the year was started with a gathering of wood and the boys got to work collecting drift wood from Clam Beach and various other locations. We all pitched in and found ourselves with a truckload of wood for our fire. I collected flowers with little B and I fashioned a flower crown from nine different flowers to give to a little girl friend. First potatoes and strawberries were not ready from the garden and did not make their way onto the menu like tradition. After diner our intention was to have all of us around the fire until dark as a special celebration privilege but after all the activity and excitement of the day it was just Bernie and I around the fire at dark. We had a quiet midsummers eve this year but hopefully next year the boys will be just a bit older and hopefully capable of staying up a we bit later.
